From film X-rays in the back of a truck to digital diagnostics across Florida — this is the story behind Portable Medical Diagnostics.

There was a box truck driving through St. Louis County with an X-ray machine in the back. In the 1960s, Dennis Rosebrough began his journey in medical imaging. After attending X-ray school and studying nuclear medicine, he developed a deep respect for the power of diagnostic care. He understood that behind every image was a patient waiting for answers and a physician depending on accuracy.

By the 1970s, Dennis joined one of the earliest mobile X-ray ventures in the United States. At a time when the industry was still in its infancy, he drove a large box truck throughout St. Louis performing X-rays and developing film inside the vehicle. There were no laptops, no digital uploads, and no instant reports. Just skill, long hours, and a commitment to doing the work the right way.

He believed that quality care should reach patients wherever they were.

Bringing Mobile Imaging to Florida

In the early 1980s, Dennis recognized a growing need in South Florida. With its expanding retiree population and increasing demand for long-term care services, bedside diagnostic imaging was becoming essential. He relocated to Florida with a medical group to help launch mobile X-ray services in the region.

Dennis quickly became the face of the company. He was the technologist facilities relied on, and the one patients saw in their rooms. He built relationships through consistency, kindness, and professionalism. Mobile imaging was still new, but his integrity and work ethic set a standard.

When the original Florida venture dissolved due to partner challenges, Dennis returned to hospital-based work. Soon after, something unexpected happened. Facilities throughout Palm Beach County began calling him directly. They missed the quality of service he provided and the trust he built face-to-face. They wanted him back.

A Leap of Faith

Encouraged by those calls, Dennis made a bold decision. He took out a loan, purchased a vehicle and an X-ray machine, and started his own company.

In the beginning, it was a true family operation. His wife answered calls from home and dispatched appointments while Dennis carried a beeper and personally performed every exam. They built the company one relationship at a time.

Word spread quickly. Dennis became known throughout South Florida simply as “the X-ray guy.” Not because he was the only provider, but because he was the one facilities trusted. His reputation was built on honesty, a strong work ethic, and treating every patient with dignity.

The company grew steadily, fueled by referrals and long-term partnerships rather than advertising. Trust became the foundation of the business.

Continuing the Legacy

Continuing the Legacy In 2012, leadership transitioned to Dennis’s son, Andrew Rosebrough, who became Chief Executive Officer. Andrew grew up watching his father build the company from the ground up and understood firsthand the values that made it successful.

Under Andrew’s leadership, the company has continued to evolve with advancements in technology, including fully digital portable imaging, secure online reporting, and expanded diagnostic services throughout the state of Florida. While the tools have modernized, the mission remains unchanged.

Portable Medical Diagnostics continues to be guided by the same principles Dennis established decades ago: integrity, reliability, compassion, and a commitment to delivering hospital-grade diagnostic care wherever patients need it.

What began in the back of a truck has grown into a trusted mobile diagnostic provider serving South Florida, built on family values and sustained by trust.
